The decision to pause the cut or re-instate the program ultimately lies with the President, Pam Eibeck. Click here to be taken to a pre-written letter you can use to request her support.
The Board of Regents meets four times per year with President Eibeck and other administrative staff members. The next meeting is coming up! Click here to see a letter you can send to the Board giving them feedback regarding Pam's decision.
The allocation of Athletic Department funds is determined by the Athletic Director, Janet Lucas. She is also chartered with adhering to Title IX laws and NCAA requirements. Click here to craft a letter letting her know what you think.
Why has Pacific opted to not announce that it has asked all departments to cut budgets? While we appreciated telling the student athletes now, why wait until the spring to also share the news of budget cuts across the board that will impact student campus life?
President Eibeck, what is your plan to fill the seats with your “If you build it, they will come” mentality. Students are protesting. Faculty has no confidence. What is your strategy for increasing revenue?
93% of faculty have no confidence in President Pam Eibeck. Teachers are being requested to take early retirement. Programs that students don’t even know about yet will disappear. In athletics, sports not in the WCC were considered for reduction. Those sports are all Olympic sports. Field hockey drew the short straw for a variety of reasons. We demand a better future for Pacific. Stop the bleeding. Start making decisions that benefit the long-term success of the university. Bring back field hockey. #JointheRoar #SavePacific #SavePacificFH #StandForWomen #bringbackhockey
Pacific has a revenue crisis and women are taking the hit. President Pam Eibeck should be held accountable for the decisions she’s making that forces the elimination of an Olympic sport like field hockey. Without action to restore admissions or endow programs, other sports will be on the chop block. Does Pacific care about athletics? Does it care about the long-term success of the university? The administration blindsided students, future students and donors—and is ignoring the long-term impact of these decisions on enrollment, donations and Pacific’s image. We want answers. We want Pacific field hockey secured. #JointheRoar #SavePacific #SavePacificFH #StandForWomen #bringbackhockey #USFHA
The U.S. Olympic Committee, USFHA and an entire community of students and alumni have raised serious concerns of cutting the Pacific women’s field hockey program. We want to help save the program to benefit the future of Pacific and future generations of women athletes. What will it take to make our voices heard? It would be a shame for the Pacific administration to ignore this outpouring of support and real offers of help to bridge gaps. Let’s solve this problem and work together. The impacts beyond Pacific are enormous. Reconsider the decision to discontinue field hockey. #JointheRoar #SavePacific #SavePacificFH #StandForWomen #bringbackhockey #USFHA
You are erasing the heritage of Pacific by cutting women’s field hockey. 70 years of tradition wiped out because of “budget cuts.” You don’t have a budget problem; you have a revenue crisis—and women are being punished for the administration’s inability to execute against its revenue plan. Shame on you Pacific. Give us a chance to save the heritage of field hockey. We want answers. This decision must be reconsidered. #JointheRoar #SavePacific #SavePacificFH #StandForWomen #bringbackhockey #USFHA
We are concerned for the future of Pacific. Why should students go to a school that lets them down? Furious with the decision of cutting women’s field hockey—we were blindsided and given NO opportunity to save it. Budget cuts don’t bring in revenue. Pacific must solve its revenue crisis instead of canceling the very programs that boost its appeal. We want answers. Bring back women’s field hockey. Reconsider the decision. #JointheRoar #SavePacific #SavePacificFH #StandForWomen #bringbackhockey #USFHA

Dear President Eibeck,
I am concerned about University of the Pacific’s future.
A review of Pacific’s public financial statements between 2014 and 2018 show that spending has gone up by $33 million, while revenue has only gone up by $16 million. This revenue crisis is impacting the Pacific community at large and women athletes are being punished for the administration’s inability to execute against its revenue plan. I was disturbed by the faculty’s vote of no confidence in your leadership. I was troubled by the recent student protests asking for your removal. But removing a successful women’s field hockey program has gone too far. Cutting athletics programs won’t bring in more students. It solves nothing and causes Pacific’s revenue crisis to go from bad to worse.
I want to help save the future of Pacific.
Please accept this letter as a call for change and a request to work together to secure the future of Pacific women’s field hockey. The math behind the decision to discontinue field hockey does not add up. The program must be reconsidered. At the very least, the decision should be paused for one year so there is time to devise a better strategy.
Let’s solve this problem and work together on creative solutions that benefit the long-term success of the university without sacrificing the very programs that boost its appeal. Do not erase 70 years of field hockey heritage at the university. Do it for our students and the generations to come.
I look forward to hearing from you on ways we can save the Pacific field hockey program.
Regards,
